AHA and RVM celebrated National Wear Red Day

Feb 09, 2016

Go-Red-2016_Bayonne_story.jpgThis past Friday, February 5 was the American Heart Association's National Wear Red Day to raise awareness of heart disease and stroke in women.  To help promote awareness, many buildings and sites nationwide changed their lights to red.  Local landmarks going red included the Hard Rock Café in Nashville, the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, and Niagara Falls in Buffalo, New York.

Bayonne staff wore red scrubs, sweaters, and shirts to help their patients learn about heart disease.  They also posted heart-healthy menus from RV Academy that featured foods low in phosphorus, potassium, and salt.

Remember just because you feel fine doesn't mean you aren't at risk for heart disease.  80 percent of heart disease is preventable and when heart disease and stroke kill 1 in 3 women, awareness and taking steps to prevent it is essential.

Niagara-Falls-goes-red_story.jpgTo keep the momentum of the campaign going, AHA and Macy's are presenting the Red Dress Collection as part of New York's Fashion Week.  Top models and actresses like Vanna White, Florence Henderson, Debbie Gibson, and Marilu Henner will sport red to demonstrate their support for women's heart health.  The event will be streamed at goredforwomen.org/red-dress-collection-2016 on February 11 at 8:00 PM EST.
