QIRN 3 in New Jersey recognizes facilities completing EnGAGE program

EnGAGE-2015_logo_story.jpgEveryone contributes to the RV Difference and, in New Jersey, ten clinics made a difference for their patients by completing Quality Insights Renal Network 3's (QIRN3) EnGAGE program.  Nine clinics were recognized for completing the "Increasing Patient, Family and Staff Engagement at the Facility" EnGAGE program with Bayonne taking home a top prize of "Patient, Family & Staff Engagement Award."  Trenton also received an "Excellence in Clinical Performance and Sustainability Award" for having the highest QIP scores in the network for at least two years and a star rating of four or five.

In 2015, QIRN3, the ESRD network for New Jersey, encouraged dialysis clinics to enroll and complete the EnGAGE certification and recognition program.  The program was divided into five pillars and used an interdisciplinary team approach involving Medical Directors, Facility Administrators, Social Workers, Nurses, and Dietitians to improve the quality and engagement between staff, patients, and their families.

The program included gathering a baseline of patient and staff engagement, educating staff about fostering the partnership between patients and staff, competing the five pillars to improve care, and effecting a cultural change at the renal center.

At QIRN3's Annual Meeting in Edison, NJ earlier this month, nine RVM facilities received a certificate of achievement for their exemplary work improving the patient/staff/family relationship.  The clinics recognized were:

- Bayonne
- Brick
- Kidney Life
- Morristown
- Newton
- Trenton
- Sewell
- Somerville
- Succasunna

En-GAGE-certificate_story.jpgPatient and staff engagement is a key element to the program and a necessary condition for the achievement of patient-centered care.  The program helps clinics achieve greater patient and staff engagement, which leads to better clinical outcomes, increased collaboration, conflict resolution, increase patient satisfaction with their care, and better performance results.

To earn the top honor of QIRN's "Patient, Family & Staff Engagement Award," Bayonne discussed the results of the survey “Getting to Know the Person Behind the Patient," received  comments and suggestions during nephrologists' rounding (doing their best to honor them, if possible) and held a Patient Appreciation Week.
