20 year Port Arthur Social Worker heads Northwest to Beaumont

Ehrensberger-moves-to-Beaumont_02_story.jpg20 years and six dialysis companies later, Port Arthur Social Worker Kristi Ehrensberger is entering a new phase in her life.  She's heading about 20 miles northwest to the Renal Center of Beaumont and the transition had been tough, but rewarding.  Staff and patients at Port Arthur will miss her and Beaumont will welcome her with open arms.

When Ehrensberger was in high school, she met a social worker and was inspired to take social work classes, which she found very interesting.  She graduated from Lamar University with a Bachelor's in Social Work and from the University of Houston with a Master's in Social Work. 

"I worked as a social worker at St. Mary's Hospital in Port Arthur, Texas while I was in graduate school and did my field practicum at the Port Arthur dialysis unit in 1995.  I was hired as the social worker in 1996," said Ehrensberger.

With the Port Arthur clinic about 40 minutes from her home and two teenagers active in high school sports, juggling her time was difficult.  With the move from Port Arthur to Beaumont, she is excited to live closer to work and be a part of her kids' lives more.

"It was hard for me to leave the patients and staff at the Port Arthur unit.  I had to do a lot of 'soul searching' before I was able to make the decision.  I have a 20 year history with many of the patients and staff in Port Arthur.  They are like my family!  However, I was able to spend a good amount of time training the new social worker at Port Arthur and introducing her to the patients.  I am positive the patients will be in good hands," said Ehrensberger.

Ehrensberger-moves-to-Beaumont_01_story.jpgShe looks forward to getting to know the patients and staff at Beaumont and feels like there will be a bit of a learning curve at the new renal center.  "It will take time to get to know the Beaumont patients as well as the ones I know from Port Arthur. However, I look forward to the challenge!"
