Renal Center of Somerville celebrates a decade of success - The Patients

Sep 09, 2015

This October, the Renal Center of Somerville celebrates 10 years of dialysis service to its New Jersey community.  RVnet will look at what has made Somerville a success through the center, staff, and the patients.  Read part 1 and part 2.

Somerville's mission is to delight and inspire its patients with amazing service.  Receiving dialysis treatment is just part of what Somerville staff have been doing for the past 10 years.  Patients sing the praises of staff, so let's hear some of their stories.

Patient 1 has been dialyzing at Somerville for several years.  "When I first started dialysis I felt really lost.  Majchrzak-Sitarz was the first person I met at the clinic and she immediately took away my fear.  She has so much spirit, which in turn lifted up my spirit.  The courtesy, professionalism, and family atmosphere has given me the courage to accept my condition and I feel blessed.  Every staff member at Somerville is very professional and has a great bedside manner.  This place gives me the strength to realize that life has so much left to offer me.  During the few hours [at Somerville] my quality of life is lifted."

Patient 2 was with Somerville when it was hit by Hurricane Irene.  "When Somerville reopened after the hurricane, ironically I felt like Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz and thought 'there's no place like home.'  I had left and dialyzed at another center, but coming back felt good and I don't plan on leaving again.  The staff are like family.  They are all professionals and take great care of me."

These positive feelings are reflected in the CAHPS survey, which all of our dialysis facilities participate in that measures patients' satisfaction with their healthcare.  The Spring 2015 CAHPS results showed high ratings for the nephrologists and RVM staff.

Majchrzak-Sitarz regularly communicates with patients after they receive a kidney transplant as they express their appreciation for Somerville's part in their lives.  "Every single patient has made return visits to thank us time again for the care they received here.  We have also been invited to patients' weddings.  In addition, the family of a former patient expressed such gratitude for the services we provided for their mother that, after she passed on, they asked family and friends to donate to the clinic in lieu of flowers."

Somerville-Center_story-06.jpgLooking forward

Patients and staff have quite a bit to celebrate as Somerville marks 10 years in the New Jersey community with a special event in October.  They have advanced the careers of many employees, persevered after Hurricane Irene shut them down for six months, and, most importantly, helped so many patients over the years.

Senior East Divisional Director Tim Weaver is appreciative of the hard work of all involved. "Under the leadership of our Medical Director Dr. Eric Manning, Regional Director Acevedo, and our Clinic Coordinator Majchrzak-Sitarz, the Renal Center of Somerville is an excellent center which provides the highest quality of care to our patients by a staff that 'walks the talk' of showing the RV Difference."

Summarizing it perfectly, Majchrzak-Sitarz said, "We don’t just provide a service here at Somerville, we have a visible presence in their lives and their families lives."
