World Health Day focuses on food safety

Apr 07, 2015

World-Health-Day-2015_story.jpgToday, April 7 is World Health Day.  The World Health Organization is commemorating the day with the slogan "From farm to plate, make food safe."  With the goal of improving food safety, the WHO encourages people to be aware of the harmful bacteria, viruses, parasites or chemical substances that can get into our foods.

According to the WHO’s Foodborne Disease Burden Epidemiology Reference Group, there were an estimated 582 million cases of 22 different foodborne-caused diseases and 351,000 associated deaths.

At Renal Ventures, we encourage you to practice safe food hygiene and to eat foods appropriate for your diet.  If you are just getting started with kidney-friendly cookbooks, check out our two cookbooks with many recipes available that may be low in salt or phosphorus.

To learn more about nutrition and food safe for those with chronic kidney disease, contact the social worker at your nearest Renal Ventures dialysis facility.
