Celebrate and take care of your kidneys during National Kidney Month in March

Mar 10, 2015

Impurities are everywhere.  We use filters for the oil in our cars, the air in our houses, and the water in our refrigerators.  Your body has its own filters…two of them and they're called kidneys.

WKD-world_story.jpgThere are impurities in your blood, which kidneys filter at a rate of approximately 200 liters a day.  Kidneys also help regulate blood pressure via maintaining salt and water balance, remove water soluble wastes such as urea and ammonium, and regulate your electrolytes.

These organs are very important to your body, but 1 in 3 Americans is at risk for kidney disease due to high blood pressure, diabetes of a family history of kidney disease.  Kidney disease is amongst the top 10 causes of death in the United States.  During National Kidney Month in March, Renal Ventures encourages you to raise awareness of the risk factors for kidney disease with friends, family and people you meet.  You might just save a life!

- Learn more about kidneys and how the National Kidney Foundation holds walks to raise money and awareness of kidney disease

WKD-glass-of-water_story.jpgMarch 12 is World Kidney Day and we join the International Society of Nephrology and the International Federation of Kidney Foundations to promote the importance of kidneys to our overall health.  As part of World Kidney Day this year, and in line with their theme of "Kidney Health for All," we encourage you to join their "Drink a Glass of Water" campaign and remember that kidneys are vital organs and should be taken care of.

Renal Ventures is also celebrating National Kidney Month by participating in the popular internet meme "Replace one word in a movie title with…" Check out Twitter page and Facebook page to see great movie posters with one word in the movie title replaced with "kidney."  Anyone want to see "The Kidney of OZ?"
